What is Libherated?

The LibHERated Initiative will hire incarcerated women into full-time community organizing roles, equipping them to lead campaigns, co-design systems of accountability and care, and earn sustainable wages while still inside. It directly addresses the structural exclusion, economic disenfranchisement, and narrative erasure that incarcerated women — particularly Black and Brown women — face during and after confinement.

over Half

of incarcerated women are mothers. Their resilience has the potential to disrupt cycles of incarceration.

Why Libherated?

By investing in women’s brilliance, ingenuity, and lived expertise, we aim to dismantle the carceral logic that sidelines their power and place them instead at the helm of reimagining justice, governance, and community resilience.

This is not just a workforce development strategy: it is a liberation strategy rooted in dignity, equity, and radical belonging.

Peer education improves health outcomes for women across the board.
